This is the Situation
Included below are some statistics from various websites and agencies that report on this. Bear in mind that by the time these agencies sift and sort and are finally ready to publish, the information is already 2 years or more old, so finding current information is nearly impossible.
One other thing that needs to mentioned, these facts are not being presented in order to inspire fear or paranoia, but to make you aware that the situation is not good and, perhaps, inspire you to take a more active role in your own well-being.
FBI Statistics
- There were an estimated 84,767 forcible rapes reported to law enforcement in 2010
- The rate of forcible rapes in 2010 was estimated at 54.2 per 100,000 female inhabitants
- Rapes by force comprised 93.0 percent of reported rape offenses in 2010, and attempts to commit rape accounted for 7.0 percent of reported rapes
- Reported forcible rapes for Indiana in 2010: 1,761
- Reported forcible rapes for Michigan in 2010: 4,673

Something that you may have picked up on reading through that list is that these statistics, as bad as they are, only apply to the number of reported rapes or attempts. When you think of the number that, for whatever reason, go unreported, the outlook is even more dim.
RAINN Statistics
- 1 out of every 6 American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime. That works out to 17.7 million American women
- The U.S. Department of Justice’s National Crime Victimization Survey says there is an average of 207,754 victims (age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year. That works out to: every 2 minutes, someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted.

No matter how you look at it, the situation is not good here in America.
